how can I make windproof tealight Candle Holders?
I’m looking for a cheap way to make windproof Tealight Candle holders. I’ve tried using cups and tall bowls, etc. but the candles still blow out in the wind. Any ideas? I have an outdoor party this Sunday!
You need to use something with a more narrow neck and straight sides.
Go to the store and buy a box of canning jars. Get any size you like. The pint jars are good. (The half-pint jam jars are too small.)
Get some medium gauge wire that you can bend easily with your hands. Twist the wire around the neck of the jar a couple of times, then bring the ends up and twist them together to form a handle. Put a tealight in the bottom of each jar and then hang the jars in bushes, trees and on railings. You can also just sit the jars around on tables, etc.
Another really pretty way to light a part is with luminarias. (NOT luminaries; there’s a difference)
If you can, get some white bakery bags, the kind that are about the size of a lunch sack. Put two or three inches of sand or clean cat litter in the bottom of each bag. Set the tealight in the back and sort of press it down into the sand or cat litter to stabilize it. When you light the candles, the bags will glow. If one catches fire, it will put itself out rather quickly. The sand/cat litter weighs the bag down so it won’t blow away.
If you can’t find any white bakery bags (I steal them from the donut area at the grocery story), you can use brown paper lunch bags. They will give off a really pretty, warm glow as well.
