How to set up basic knob/button operated LED light?
I am building a model of a hockey rink. I want to rig up a very simple knob operated Red Led light as the goal light. I would like to have a battery hooked up all the time and be able to use the knob to flick the light on/off. If it makes a difference, the LED light will be red. I also hope to have the wire from the LED light to the knob be about 7 feet.
Through research so far it seems as simple as connecting(with solder and wire) the battery piece to the knob to the resister and finally to the light.
Any advice or if someone could point me to other resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
yes it’s that simple, the only problem is if you don’t have the led hooked to the +/- wire properly with respect to polarity. one lead (on the led) should be longer, that one should be hooked up to the + side, if you get this wrong, don’t worry you won’t damage the led, just switch the leads
this is really the big difference from a bulb, as a diode an led will only allow current to flow in one direction, whereas a light bulb can be hooked up to either terminal and will still work, an led has a positive side and a negative side
